No agenda but God’s.
No purposes but His.
Background Information:
Aberdeen, SD was nicknamed "The Hub City" because of all of the railroad lines that converge in this city. On a map we look like the center "hub" of a wheel and the rail lines look like spokes running out in all directions from this central point. As a railroad executive was planning the rail lines through this area, there was one proposed town site that reminded him of his hometown in Scotland. Aberdeen, SD was named in honor of his hometown Aberdeen, Scotland.
From Audrey Smidt 3/4/08:
I was pondering the terms "city team" and "city reaching".
Then this picture of a basketball team in a huddle came to mind. The funny thing is that this team didn't "break" and then run out on the court. . .
This team would huddle up, listen to the coach's game plan, and then put one hand into the center as a sign of agreement. (that all seemed very normal). The unusual thing is, that this team had GOD for their coach. When they shouted, their hands in the center of the huddle didn't break apart. Instead, their opposite hands shot out in unison.
Later that day as I was pondering what I had seen, the name "Hub City Reaching" once again came to mind. Most recently, phrases like "Reaching in to Reach Out" have been running through my head.
If you know someone who has a heart for God and for seeing HIS purposes fulfilled in Aberdeen (or in their city), invite them to check out cityreaching.pbwiki.com. Once they land on the front page, they'll be able to click on "Aberdeen, SD" in the list of cities which is found in the right hand side bar (or they can see if their own city is included in the list).
If they want to edit or add anything, they'll need to click on the "edit page" button at the top of this page. They'll be asked to enter the password (cityteam) and give their name and email address as log in information.
If you want to share anything with us, please feel free to email us at HubCityReaching@gmail.com.
In October of 2002, people who had a heart for the Lord and the city of Aberdeen were invited to a Convocation. (A convocation is an assembly, a call to come together for a specifice purpose.)
The purpose statement of this convocation was "A coming together of those who have a heart for God, seeing His purposes fulfilled in Aberdeen, and the uniting of His people for the accomplishing of that end."
Ephesians 4: 1-16 was the scripture text that was noted at the bottom of the invitation.
During that meeting we also studied:
Matthew 6:10 (The Great Petition)
Matthew 22: 34-40 (The Great Commandment(s))
Matthew 28: 19 & 20 (The Great Commission)
It was noted that loving your neighbor is costly. It requires an investment of your time, talent and treasure.
This quote from Jim Cymbala was shared: "The advancement in the way people live has come about because someone saw what could be and was no longer willing to accept what is.
These are some of the scriptures that have been shared since the convocation. We encourage you to prayerfully read these and let the Holy Spirit lead you to others as well.
Matthew 12:30
Isaiah 64:6&7
Psalm 127:1
Matthew 7:21
Matthew 11:11
Matthew 18: 3&4
